Jorge Blanco

Artist Bio

Jorge believes that his work should speak for itself. The bright, often elementary colors, glossy finish, and clean geometric shapes make his sculptures icons of joy. Armed with a degree in Industrial Design from the Neumann Institute (Venezuela), he formed a Graphic Design firm, working on his sculptures during his free time. Jorge moved to Italy in 1974, where his first sculpture exhibition was a one-man show at the Italian - American Institute in Rome in 1978. In 1979, his work was exhibited at the Contemporary Art Museum Sofia Imber. Since then he has participated in over 100 exhibitions in Venezuela, Europe, Asia and the USA.

For the past three years, he has exhibited at Pier Walk in Chicago, at the Mitchell Foundation, Illinois. The Sarasota Season of Sculpture is showing his work 'Phoenix' in its 2002 - 2003 large scale sculpture exhibition.

In Sarasota, where he has lived and worked since 1999, 3 of his large scale sculptures, can be seen on permanent display: "The Runners", in the median on U.S. 41 across from the Art Center, Positively Red' at the Van Wezel Performing Center, and 'Cartwheel' at Gulf Gate Elementary School.

"My intention when creating large scale sculpture for public spaces, is that there is an option for people who cannot go to a museum or do not have the time to specifically seek out art. Art should always be available to us, surround us and uplift us."
